Exch2K Public Folders "Unable to create Subfolder"

A User who has owners rights to a public mail folder has created a set of 17 subfolders underneath a folder attached to public folders.

When creating a 18th folder an error message occurs "unable to create folder"

Is there a limit to the number of sub-folders permitted if not what could be the problem. Nothing appears to be logged in the event logs.

Any help would be appreciated.

Further to initial question, Running a integrity check across the public folder indicated b-tree index errors which would stop the creation of the folder so a restore is in progress to fix the problem.
