Is there a good way to eleminate the excessive pop-ups that plague my machine?

You could try POPUP KILLER, it's a free download.

It's a great programme until your online bank decides to use POPUPS. Have fun. DOS Tip #1701: Add DEVICE=FNGRCROS.SYS to CONFIG.SYS

if you eman, Adds form the Internet, you can use a Firewall, like Zone Alarm.
I also recommend you to delete Offline Files and Cookies. A+, MCP, CCNA

Keep fighting for your knowledge!

Actually why I asked is I see this often on machines when I am installing internet access for a cable company. It takes me much longer to get some machines registered. I knew someone here would have suggestions. Thanks

I use any of these Free browsers , which have a built in pop up stopper . ( don't add ,
About Blank , to your filter list )
Use very little resources ( No Add's ) & are as good as any other browser .
Intergrates quitely into your system , do not take over . You can still run your normal browser ,
if you wish .

myIE Web Browser ( not Nemesis MyIE ) from ,
Cancel the Chinese to English download box , it's now in English .

It seems that in Singapore there is an active community of opensource browser development:
benbenbrowser, the base for SShellWeb2, is based on MyIE2 v. 3.2. Now it seems that the new
version of MyIE3 is no longer opensource, but from MyIE2 v. 3.2 source code has been developed
from another opensource browser, iTreeSurf.
iTreeWeb is the new base for ShellWeb3 - I've removed some chinese-specific things and added
some options, the main addition is - of course - ShellBookmarks.
ShellBookmarks are now customizable by user, like almost everything in ShellWeb3: background,
icons, etc.
The main new features inherited from MyIE/iTreeSurf are:
1 - Mouse Gestures
2 - Complete customization
3 - Web Proxy
4 - Minimize to tray
5. Import NetCaptor groups
...and much more... a complete list is in help.txt
Of course, all credit goes to the developers of MyIe2 and iTreeSurf - they did an incredible
job!
The sources will be available as soon as I finish cleaning them -ShellWeb will be opensource
as it was planned from the start.
And - no, there is no gecko engine here - you gotta live with this: only IE...

Or, of course you could try Opera ( I'm a big fan of it and it has the ability to toggle popups at ease quickly, which is nice when you do occasionally need them.

I'd recommend using Socks4/5 Ad Blocker, free download of only 90 kb from which is a proxy server that filters ads, java and more. It's also possible to restore I.E. configuration from its options if you want to stop using it.

Thanks everyone. It seems more like they are cached and not just pop ups. I was looking for more of the idea of removing cookies and temp files that never seem to go away.
T;hanks again for the suggestions.
Jim

Are you referring to Winpopups or popups that come from using Internet Explorer?

Im not sure where they come from. Some machines seem to have a ton of windows / ads or whatever that seem to keep coming.

Spider finds hidden Url's that other mean's don't .
Cleans >
1 . Hidden Url's .
2 . Tempory Internet Files .
3 . History Files .
4 . Cookies .
Click on Spider , not Spider Bite .

Jim

Why not do what I do and start fresh each time you boot your pc?

I run a batch file (*.bat) from the autoexec.bat which deletes all TIF and all index files that are protected/hidden. These are deleted in DOS before WINDOWS loads, and are rebuilt to default size by your system.

This is mine, I call it COMDEL:

DEL C:\WINDOWS\COOKIES\INDEX.DAT
DEL C:\WINDOWS\HISTORY\HISTORY.IE5\INDEX.DAT
DEL C:\WINDOWS\TEMPOR~1\CONTENT.IE5\INDEX.DAT
EXIT

and very easy to do. If you need instruction, just ask. COFFEE.EXE missing - Insert Cup and Press Any Key.
