File open in Excel for edit

Open the same file in XLVIEWER and all seems well
but
Add some data to the one open in Excel and Save

"Sharing violation" etc

An unexpected result

Is this normal????

Can anyone throw any light on
A: Is this right and
B: Why if XLViewer views Excel files

Yeah, it's the same file being accessed. I wouldn't have thought XLviewer even would have been able to get it open .. learn something new everyday. :)

You have always benn able to open the same file again in Excel except that the second copy, and subsequent ones, are always Read Only. You get a little message box telling you so. Life then flows along quite smoothly.

Sort of logically assumed that XLViewer would do the same thing. Not I believe a major assumption.
It doesn't ---- but the Office97 one works as I had expected.

That is the problem.
