I am trying to put together a basic spreadsheet to track temp staff hours. the problem i am having is when i try and auto calculate the difference between start and finish times minus breaks it can not display the total hours worked for the day because excel keeps trying to display the time in specific days/hours/mins/secs instead of general 24hour times. EG.
Start Finish Break Total hours worked
Tuesday 9:30 16:30 45mins
Wednesday 9:30 16:30 55mins
Thursday 9:30 16:30 20mins
Friday 9:30 16:30 0
Monday 9:30 16:30 0

I tried formatting the cell as 24hour time but it still takes it as a specific date/time.
Much appreciated if anyone could assist me.
Kind regards

Hello,

Try to format the column in this format :

[h]:mm

And then do your calculation.

Hope this will helps you!

You can also convert your hh:mm format to decimal hours.
Format an empty cell as number and paste the formula =A1*24 where A1 is the cell containing the time
From there on you can use decimal for further calculation
