Whenever I transfer a text document into excel it helpfully converts more data than it is supposed to...customer info is 3 letters and 4 numbers, and anytime this starts with 3 letters that excel thinks is a month it converts to a date. I need it to stay as a letter-number combination. I have to use the Text-To-Columns function to parse the info so I have been unable to pre-format the columns. Any ideas?

Hi,
In Text to Columns you CAN format each "column" Skip,

Hello, when I open a .txt file in Excel I get the text import wizard. On Step 2 or 3, it allows you to choose the data format for each column (even if you parsed the data in the first or second step). Did you try that? It should work fine.

thankyou I guess this is the part about reading the directions first. s-)
