I have a table of data, 12 columns of months and 8 rows of data. I want a chart with months as the X axis and values on the Y axis. I further want the first seven rows to be a stacked bar for each month, and the last row to be a line superimosed across the stacked bars.

A stacked bar chart is easy. A Line chart is easy. Even a combination bar and line chart is one of the supplied options. But not a stacked bar and line.

Appreciate any help. TIA Mike

Hi,

Are you REALLY referring to a BAR (horizontal) chart or a COLUMN (vertical) chart?

1. do the stacked column for the required ranges
2. COPY the range containing the data for the LINE series
3. Select the Chart
4. Edit/Paste Special - paste series.

Sorry, stacked columns is correct. Your next steps let me add the row with the Line data to the chart, but it treats it as an additional data point and justs add it to the the top of each column.

I need to diaplay it as a line, preferably with a second value scale on the right hand side Y axis.

I failed to add the additional steps.

5. select the newly added series.

6. Chart/Type - Select the desired Chart Type.

You are a stud! Thanks so much!

BTW, You could do the whole chart in one step using the chart wizard and then do steps 5 & 6. But adding a series is a handy trick to have in your toolbox.
