Odd problem,
User goes to web site usin IE 5.5 and opens a good link to an excel spreedsheet. Spreedsheet opens but displays no data. The spreedsheet can be seen by every one else w/ all its data so we know the link is good. Any suggestions?

Hi!
i've had the same problem as well....strange?
I've tried to load the same excel sheet in IE from another machine (XP Prof) and it's ok.

Win2000 Prof & IE 5.5 is ok
Win2000 Prof & IE 6 is not ok.

Possibly a file association problem. If the client clicks on any .xls file via windows explorer does it open correctly in Excel or do you also get a blank worksheet?

If it opens blank make sure the command line for the .xls file type is running the "%1" at the end of the command line so it looks something like this:

"C:\Program Files\Microsoft Office\Office\EXCEL.EXE" /e "%1" joegz

Hi,

Yes, it can opens the same excel or word file when save to local hdd and open from the local hdd.
And, it's able to open excel/word doc from other intranet web servers.
so, I guess this may be due to web server settings?
BUT, other clients are able to view the same excel/word documents.....
that's why I can't figure out if this is the web server or the client Office/IE problems?

Any idea?

Is the troubled we site on an Intranet server or Internet server? If Internet then I would first think then it is a security setting that would be keeping it from opening.

Here is something else you can try. Go to FILE TYPES and uncheck the option "Browse in same window" which should allow the file to be opened in Excel but outside of the browser. See if it displays correctly via this method. joegz

It's on the Intranet server.
I've tried resetting defaults on IE options (Security tab as well as advanced tab)

I've tried your ways to check the "Browse in same window" option too, but no luck still....

Any other ideas?
Thanks!
