Is there anything to be done after using a macro using VBA in Excel and it crashes. AFter that, it takes forever for the program to load - 5 minutes instead of a few seconds. When I upgraded to Office XP for Developers, this cured it on my computer. However, I have other people who are using the program that are having similar problems. It is like once a macro crashes, all macros load slowly. Is there anything to do to correct this other than reinstalling Microsoft office?

There might be an instance of Excel still running in memory after the "crash". If the other machines are using NT/2000, Open Task Manager and check the Processes (not just the Applications) for any Excel instances. If any are running, just select them and click the End Process button.

Mark,

This slowdown occurs all the time after the crash. Even after rebooting and starting again. You don't mean there would still be an instance running after a reboot do you? I will check that to be sure. However, after rebooting the machine and starting excel, when I open the Excel spreadsheet using the Macros it takes about five minutes to load. It also takes another five minutes to link to the spreadsheet that I am using as a VLookup. It is like something is going on in the background. However, how would I stop that from happening everytime I use Excel?

I doubt Excel would be running in the background after a reboot.

After the reboot, can you run Excel and open a different spreadsheet normally and with or without macros? Or is it just the one file that caused the crash in the first place that opens slow?

After rebooting, any macro loads slowly - several minutes. Or any linking that is done to other sheets runs slow. Opening a regular spreadsheet does fine. Also when I run a custom form and input the information into the spreadsheet that takes about 30 seconds instead of being instantaneous. I did notice that when this is loading the cpu is running at 100% while it is loading and says that Excel is not responding although it does eventually go ahead and load
