Help.

Our Server at work is using Windows NT4 and we use Microsoft Excel 2000 on all our Client machines.

The problem we are having is that more and more Excel files are coming up with the error "UNABLE TO READ FILE" when we try to open various Excel spreadsheets. Some spreadsheets have little or no macros / vba code and we don't use pivot tables.

Any ideas wouyld be appreciated!!!

bit more infor please

...are you having difficulty opening any other Sever based files in different Apps (eg MSWord) or only MSExcel? Is anyone opening then saving files in an XP or 2003 (higher) version of Excel? How are files behaving when they've been created, saved and reopened on the local machine - OK or not ? (OK would rule out a re-install of Excel on the Clients).

No other problems reported from any other applications.

Possibly there maybe some ocassions whereby people open files using a different version of Excel. However this is minimal if at all.

We have not tried saving to the local machine, but we can try and see what happens.

The only thing that has changed on the network recently was a Virus patch. Would a service patch fix this??

Other weird things happening now whereby we delete files on the Network, only to have them re-appear and Excel opens on its own. Virus??? Our Virus checking is working and supposed to be up to date..........
