I've been using Excel for years, using Autosum to add up a column and if you insert a new row into that column it will include it in your formula. However it has just stopped doing that (Office 2000), has anyone else come across this at all?

Many thanks

It may depend on whether you are adding to the middle of the list, top, or bottom. Certainly additions to the middle of the list should be included in the formula, the top or bottom may not depending on how the formula is written (by autosum)

I know that's what is odd, we are adding in the middle. Tried on several spreadsheets and it apppears intermitent, so maybe just a glitch. Many thanks

What does your formula look like in the cell (when it is not adding the inserted columns)?

=(A1:A43)

Then when you insert a row in the middle it stays at

=(A1:A43) but the new total we have included does not add up. Not to worry they have now pasted it into another spreadsheet and seems to be working.

Thanks again

Just a thought, is Excel still set to automatically calculate? Look under tools->options Calculation tab. Calculation should be set to automatic. If it is set to something else (such as manual) it will exhibit the behavior that you are describing.

Just a thought. You've peaked my curiosity.
