We are using Crystal Enterprise 9. We have several reports that must be either scheduled to Excel or exported to Excel. When we choose the regular Excel format (NOT Data Only), it can take 30 minutes or more to open the resulting spreadsheet even on our fastest PCs. Granted, the spreadsheets are somewhat large (3 MB), but that amount of time seems crazy.

As a test we copied the output spreadsheet to our local PC to eliminate any possible network interference. We noticed in task manager that Excel spikes the processor when opening the spreadsheet. This only happens with spreadsheets scheduled from/exported from Crystal Enterprise 9.

Any ideas? Help!!!!

Thanks in advance.

Crystal will perform lots of time consuming formatting (merging celss, etc.) on exports to try to give it the same look and feel of the report.

30 minutes is certainly excessive, try simplifying the design of the report, and make sure that you apply the service packs/hotfixes from CD's site:

When opening in Crystal Report format it takes only a few seconds. The same report scheduled to Excel in Seagate Info 7.5 takes only a few seconds to open. We've also applied all of the Monthly Hot fixes and continue to see the issue. Our next step is to rewrite the report to try and make it more CE9/Excel friendly although it is already pretty basic.
