Excel not listed in Get External Data>Import

I am running Access 97 and Excel 97 on Windows 98 and want to import data from Excel to Access. I have selected File> Get External Data> Import, but the "Files of Type" list does not include Excel.

I went to Add/Remove Programs> Office 97> Add/Remove> Data Access> Change Options and tried to install data access for Excel, but it was listed as already installed.

Why doesn't Excel appear on the Import list in Access?

Windows [Start]/Settings Control Panel/Administrative Tools/Data Sources (ODBC) - System DSN Tab - ADD -- and select Microsoft Excel Driver

This should ADD Excel to your list of ODBC Drivers.

Thanks for the tip, but that did not add Excel to the list of Files of Type in Access import. I finally did find the solution here:

Registering MSEXCL35.DLL did the trick.
