Howdy guys,

I dread to hear the answer to this one.

I have an Excel 2003 list. It has the little blue line around it and everything. Life would almost be good except that I cannot do subtotals on the list. If I convert it back to a range, the option Data->Subtotals is available again.

Please tell me that Microsoft did not leave out this functionality?? If they did, does anyone have a work around??

Thanks a bunch!

hi,

how about Toggle row totals in the List Toolbar?

LOL Skip, you're everywhere!

I need subtotals by group, unfortunately. So that little total bar at the bottom won't cut it this time.

So what's the advantage of using a LIST in this instance.

I NEVER use the List feature, but I use Lists regularly as Name Ranges -- VERY USEFUL!!!

I need to be able to import/export XML data. /groan

Please don't tell me I can't do a summary....I'll cry! lol

I was able to use the List Toolbar on an XML file - just used it to sum (or average) each column, then outside the list I just entered a SUM formula for the ranges I wanted. Not as good as Data, Subtotals, I will admit, but still viable.

If you can logically define the group, then the SUMIF or SUMPRODUCT functions could give you subtotals.

oooo Good idea! I will give it a try!

Thanks for the awesome ideas!

to be continued...

gratefully yours,
