hello,
hope someone can help me with a line graph.

I am attached to a datasource that is a table setup like this :

servername drive drive_space date

testsvr1 C 40 12/07/2004
testsvr1 D 50 12/07/2004
svr2 C 10 12/07/2004
svr2 D 80 12/07/2004
testsvr1 C 44 13/07/2004
testsvr1 D 51 13/07/2004
svr2 C 10 13/07/2004
svr2 D 82 13/07/2004

how can I create a line graph that shows the srive space over the date for each drive on each server.
I then need to auto filter on the server so I can see 1 line graph for a server but multiple lines, one for each drive.
is this even possible ?

thank you for all your help.

welshone,

1. Loose the empty row

2. Use the PivotTable Wizard to report/chart

Server in Page

Date in Row

Drive in Column

Space in Data

:)

hi, I have tried that but it puts the space as count of space, I need to actual number....
how cna I do that ?

Change the option from COUNT to SUM this should give you the amount of space available

no mate, that hasn't worked.
when I llok at my dat , I choose differnt field settings for the space only count displays data, every other function shows 0.

welshone,

I have just tried this with your data and the SUM function works fine for me.
Is there an issue with the format of you original data?
This has happened before to me.
I get a total of SVR2182 and TESTSVR1 185 is this the data your are hoping to see?
Obvisouly you could then add the date field somewhere els (across the top?)

the data I am hoping to see what be the true value for each drive on each date, then I could create a line graph mapping this info.

Sum of Drive Space Date

Server 12/07/2004 13/07/2004 Grand Total
svr2       90 174 264
testsvr1   90 95 185
Grand Total 180 269 449

These are the reults tht I get when I use your data with the SUM function. (excuse the format) Is this what you need?
If so I would again suggest you check the format of the data before you use a pivot table.
Hope this helps

I would need the data in a format like :

server drive 12/7/04 13/7/04
svr2 C 10 10
svr2 D 80 82
testsvr1 C 40 44
testsvr1 D 50 50

like that.

my data looks fine, the drive space can be like this though :

22.50
18.88
36.00

but this shouldn't have any affect should it ?

OK here we go.
I got his to work but it will add the SVR total in at each break.

Use the Pivot wizard as normal.
Drop the Server name and the Drive in on the columns and then the Size into the data and then the date into the row.
Then uncheck the totals in the chart options if desired

This works fine for me with the sum set to 2 decimal places as you required. and gives the results you indicated.

thanks, I will keep trying this, I think you are right about the formatting, my daa starts off in a database with the space as a varchar, I'll convert it to a number.
thNanks for the help
