Hello, I have some hyperlinks in a spreadsheet and everytime I click on one it tells me I have to hold ctrl and click the link first. Is there anyway to turn that off so I can just point and click?

Thanks,

gogirl

Hi,

No, otherwise how do you select it to do OTHER things?

Prior to Excel 2002 if one clicked on a hyperlink it was followed; this made it difficult to edit the hyperlink and the cell had to be selected using the arrow keys. There was a similar problem in Word.

In Word 2002 an option to use Ctrl+Click to follow a hyperlink was introduced so that one could edit the hyperlink by simply clicking on it. In Excel 2002 clicking still caused the hyperlink to be followed but a change in behaviour allowed for clicking and holding to be used to edit the cell - as far as I know there are no options associated with this, it's just the way it works. If you have tooltips enabled you see a prompt telling you about all this when you hover the mouse over a hyperlink.

Given all this, I am confused by your question. There is no Ctrl+Click in Excel. In an Excel spreadsheet you *can* just point and click to follow a hyperlink. In Word you have the option. Could you state precisely what you want and in what application.

Enjoy,
Tony

Tony, we have some documents in Sharepoint that we are trying to link to an excel spreadsheet. We would like the people using the document to be able to point and click, however, we are forced to hold ctrl and click. If you are saying this is not the case in excel then could it be an issue with the document on the sharepoint server? I don't see why that would be an issue but I'm no expert.

I'm afraid I don't know how SharePoint might affect things but you say you are linking *to* an Excel spreadsheet and, although you don't say for sure, it sounds like you are linking *from* a Word document. If so, then (in Word) go to Tools > Options > Edit (tab) and uncheck "Use CTRL + Click to follow hyperlink".

Enjoy,
Tony
