I know this will be easy for most of you but i cant seem to get my head round it this morning,

I have column A filled with numbers and column C with numbers in it. I want to compare A with C and if it finds a match in the range fill column B with the contents of column D.

Thanks for your help

just an update on this because i dont think i was very clear the part i'm having problems with is If i find a match to A1 in C3 how do i get it to copy the contents of D3 to B1

hi,

If i find a match to A1 in C3 how do i get it to copy the contents of D3 to B1

INDEX() & MAtch() OR VLOOKUP()

[tt]
=INDEX(D:D,MATCH(A1,B:B,0),1)

or

=VLOOKUP(A1,B:D,3,false)
[/tt]
Look in Excel HELP for the documentation in each of these spreadsheet functions. These are basic functions that you ought to understand what they do, how they do it and under what conditions they are best used.
