Hi,
I want to create a chart with the following set of values
X Y
1x1 323
2x2 4234
3x3 32323
4x4 323232

I am using XY scatter chart but the chart displays the X-grid values as 1,2,3,4 instead of 1x1,2x2,...
Is there a way to display the values in the grid in this specific format?

Thanks,
Samit

Samit,

It seems this qualifies as a BUG in Excel, as it doesn't respond to Text format.

Here's a workaround...

You could simply place text boxes (with a white background) over top of the numbers on the X axis.

Note that you can "link" each text box with each of the cells containing the X-axis text. After inserting the first text box, and still clicked on it, simply type =xxx where you replace "xxx" with the cell containing "1x1".

Then format the text box - i.e. white background, no outline, and center the text vertically and horizontally.

Next copy the first text box for each of the other X-axis points, and change the formula references to the other cells.

I hope this helps. :)

This is a strenuous task since I have many X-values and many graphs like these. THen there is a problem with moving the chart around with this approach. It also does not scale well when the data set changes.

THere has to be a better way ...

An xy scatter graph requires numeric pairs of x and y values. You have no x value to plot in this case. You may hav meant to use a line graph with only the points showing and the lines omitted.
