Will somone please help me with a fomula to separate a first name from last name in a column? Thank you for your help.

What is the current format? We can't read your mind, you know. [wink]

LastName, FirstName?
FirstName LastName?

There are many things to consider ... Chip Pearson has had a fairly good go at this:


although I don't know if even his stuff could cope with names like

richard van der groot

I tried the first name formula from your attachment and it is pulling over the whole name. I have even tried to play arount with it.

I use this formula =LEFT(A1,FIND(" ",A1))to recognize a numer from a street address. Do you know of something like this I can use to recognize text?

That WILL recognize text. Have you tried that formula with your names?
