Hi
I am hoping you can help this is probably very simple to do but I have no idea how to or how to google for the answer.

I have a spreadsheet as simplified below

a b c d
Date Item a/b Cost

1/11 blah a £5
2/11 blah b £1
3/11 blah a £10
4/11 blah b £2

Total A (should be £15)
Total B (should be £3)

Bascailly I want a formula to add the cost of all A's together and another one for all b's within a certain range.

Any guidance most appreciated thanks
SN

Pivot Tables are a great way to summarize the data, but for placing the totals on the same sheet as in your example, SumIf is the formula you want.

Side note (and the reason I'm bothering to post):

Place your totals at the TOP of the data, not the bottom. And Freeze Panes so that the column headers and totals are always visible, regardless of where viewers scroll.

Placing sums at the bottom forces people to go looking for the totals thereby wasting time.
