I have an excel file that is very slow to open and to use butonly in Excel 2007. In Excel 2003 it works fine. The file is fairly large around 12MB. Can anyone tell me what could be causing this slowness?

If on two different machines, check to see if there are drives that are disconnected.

Ok I was able to determine the problem was with the excel file itself. I copied over all the data to a new file and it came out to a file size of 700KB. So there is something very large in the old file slowing it down.Look around the file but could not find anything that could explain the slowness. In any case the new file works just fine.

My guess for the large size is one of two things.
1. (Most likely) Some formatting added to all cells, or many cells, with blank data.
2. Lots of VBA code added to the worksheet itself rather than the PERSONAL workbook.
