Saving excel document (OF2000/WinXP) takes very long time
any ideas ?
Thanks .

Errrr....how big? What's in the file? Saving to floppy, hard drive, or other?

file 500 kb about 20 second when save to hard drive

I dunno if that's so alarming. That's a half a meg file. You've got to remember that Excel saves workbooks as temp files, deletes the workbook, then renames the temp. Also, many charateristics of a workbook can slow down closing/saving...i.e. is it password protected? are there a large number of links to other workbooks?/how many links have to be updateD? are there a lot of controls on your worksheet? Further, do you have journalling enabled in Outlook? What type of virus scan is in place? Is your temp file full of old files?

There're a lot of possibilites...

thanks for helping me out
It's not password protected
no links to workbooks
Journailing is not enabled
Antivirus :sonicwall VirusScan ASAP
on the top of all it happens only on workstations witn Win XP

Ok. If you're running Office 97 or 2000, go to control panel, locate the FindFast icon, and delte the indexes, etc.
If Office XP, while in Excel, go to File, Search Options, Other Search options, drill down until you can disable Fast Searching (if it's not there, it's not installed).
Post back if no joy...

Also, please respond back with the flavor of Excel that's giving you the problem (i.e. 997, 2k, XP, etc)

Excel 2000 and Excel XP ,but only on WinXP workstations
thanks

And this slow save phenomenon appears on both Excel 2k and Excel 2002(XP)??
