Only 1 user has this problem and it happens on every machine. Using Office 97 on Win98SE.
This user can happily open xls documents from within excel but if he double clicks a file from explorer it appears with an error saying it cannot find the file specified.
I know I can just recreate this user and it will be OK but it is just very annoying.
Has anybody seen this before.

Try Tools / Options / General / Uncheck 'Ignore Other Applications'

In case this thread is still viewed I have a question.

I had a similar problem and Ken's solution worked a treat.
So thank you Ken for this.
However, this happened without my knowingly changing this parameter. Literally one day I was using Excel 2k on all my Excel files OK and the next they would only open when dragged over an open Excel window. Obviously things don't change as a result of inactivity, but I never change Excel options.
Anyone have any ideas what could have caused this?

Sorry, I'm sure I did know the answer at one point but for the life of me cannot remember what it is now. It'll bug me now though so if I come across it I'll post back.

Thanks Ken,

You probably just saved me hours of frustration trying to solve this for a user.....have a star!

Chris

IT would be the perfect job......if it didn't have users!!!

Many thanks :)

Many thanks for that. I was begining to think that a "Office Reinstall" was the only solution.

It IS very odd - it has happened to me also - even when I knew about it. Luckily, I knew how to fix it but I sure as $%£$%£$% didn't change it....
