Excel Error - Creates Temporary File

I am using Excel 2003 with SP3 on an IBM Thinkpad. The problem is when I have 2-3 workbooks for copying and pasting data Excel creates a temporary file of the current workbook and the Microsoft Error Report(Send, Don't Send) pops up. When I select either I have to save the temporary file, close the application and start all over again recovering the workbook.

I have searched everywhere and cannot find anything. I even searched the MS known fixes and checked through the knowledge base.

Any ideas?

Thanks in advance for taking the time to assist.

You may have a corrupt ".xlb" file.

You could try searching for and deleting all ".xlb" files. If you don't want to delete them you could rename them to - say - ".old"?

Excel will re-create any it needs.

If that fails, try re-registering Excel.

Open a cmd shell and navigate to the folder that contains excel.exe and then issue the following commands

Excel.exe /UnregServer

followed by

Excel.exe /RegServer

I tried all your suggestions and I am still getting the same results.

Any other ideas?

Thanks,

A repair install wouldn't hurt. It's an option if you insert the installation CD.

I don't suppose you have made documents & settings a private folder have you? Or encrypted that or the temp folder? Or any folder that temp is a sub folder too?

You could try deleting the entire contents of the temp folder C:\Documents and Settings\your username\Local Settings\Temp - do that from a safe mode bootup.

Try using a different user id? That will tell you if its a corrupted profile issue.
