Can someone tell me how to create a dropdown list in excel? Thank you for your help in advance.

hi,

Do you want a ...

1. Data Validation -- LIST drop down
2. MS Forms drop down
3. ActiceX drop down
[/tt]
... listed in order of complexity of use?

[smile] Hi,

Just a simple drop down list to choose - for example the type of company when inputing contact information in an address list. Order of complexity not important in this case.

Thank you,

Data Validation probably should be your first choice. As Skip indicated, it's the easiest (you can simply list the items you want as a list) and very powerful. It should meet all your needs.

Using Data > Validation -- LIST

Begin by making you list in a vertical range of cells and reference that range in your D > V --LIST.

You will have a IN CELL drop down.

Thank you.

I would like for my user to pick from a list of categories as an initial step to inputting the rest of the information for that category. So if I wanted to create the list in another sheet of the workbook, is there a formula for this method?

Create you list in any sheet and NAME the RANGE.

Then use the Range Name in the LIST reference.
