Hello,

When I double click on an Excel file whilst browsing locally or across the network, excel loads up but the actual document does not.

The computer reoprts no error, yet when I go into excel manually and select open, the documents load OK.

Has anyone ever come across this before, if so what causes it.

Thanks in advance
Phil

Likely, the file is "out of view".

Open the file again.
Hit Window-Arrange, and then just hit Ok.

The file's title bar will likely show below your toolbars. Double-click it to make it a "default" view of an Excel file. Save it.

Hi,

Thanks, but there is no windows to arrange.
It looks like the files are not loading at all.

Its strange if I go into Excel manually and load it its OK, its only when Im browsing it fails.

Soundguy, what did you try that corrected the problem?
Also what version of Excel are you using.

We have also experienced files not opening from Groupwise or Windows Explorer. The user may open files many times, then all at once one will not open when double-clicking an attachment or from Windows Explorer. No further files will open unless opened from within Excel. This occurs only on PC's with Excel XP. The "ignore other applications" is unchecked as recommended.
If Excel is closed, then double-clicking the file opens correctly (a frustrating solution).

It is happening on a Windows 98 PC with Office XP and on Windows 2000 SP3 with Office XP. I am only concerned about the Windows 2000 machines.

I performed the steps in 'cleanyourpc.htm' and also ran the Office 'Repair' from the install CD.
The problem continues. We have discovered another user with the same problem (Office XP again).
Any other suggestions?

How could I tweak the W2K Prof. system so that it can open an Excel file w/ macro faster? I tried:

1) Set the macro protection to low (I don't want to do this)
2) clear *.emf files in temp folder
3) Check the Ignore other applications under General option of Tools menu

I found out it takes more than 3 minutes to open an excel file (>3Mb) from W2K server. I'm using 100Mbps full duplex network. I checked with Perfmon, none of the resource is in the peak level. Thanks.
