excel documents open 'read only'

Hi all. I have a user who has full permissions to a folder. when she 'opens' a document from the folder, whether its through the web, or livelink explorer, it's in read only mode. How can I correct this? User is running xp sp3, IE7.

is she using the OPEN command or the EDIT command ? the OPEN command is always read only as its just a view.

thanks for the input. I think she is using the 'open' button. I'll find out for sure and post back.
