Excel Data Markers

I am plotting large data series and wish to use the data markers to identify a series. I am using a XY scatter chart and the data points are pretty much on top of each other. I would like a simple macro to place a data symbol at each Xth point in the series.

PS If anyone has an add in to do this from the format data series popup?
