excel converting time to percentage in timesheet

I am creating a simple timesheet in excel. I input my start and stop times and have a formula that tells me how much time was worked. How do I convert that to a percentage? i.e. 8 hrs 30 min converts to 8.5 hrs.

I saw this done once and am having a problem duplicating it.

multipy the time field by 24 and format the results cell as a number.
