I am looking to convert a large batch of Microsoft Works files (.xlr) to Excel but have a small problem. I can simply open the .xlr in Excel 2003 but the currency fields are coming out as dollars ($) when they were originally sterling (£) in the .xlr. My regional settings are all UK so if it's looking for a "home" currency it should be using sterling (£).

Does anybody know why this is happening? Is there a setting in Excel or the original Works file causing this? Is there something I can do on my PC i.e. O/S settings to rectify this.

I have seen a few converters online so may go down this route but I was originally thinking that I could rename the .xlr files to .xls and job done.

Currency is a FORMAT only issue. The underlying value is a pure NUMBER.
