I have a date feild in excel that I now formatted to month day --
I want to take the formatted date and turn that into a text field.

is this possible? how?

You can format any date ( irrespective of how you've formatted it ), by doing =TEXT(datecellref,"mm/dd") in a cell alongside it.

Cheers, Glenn.

Did you hear about the literalist show-jumper? He broke his nose jumping against the clock.

Because Excel stores dates as the number of days since 1/1/01, the date is actually stored as "37780" or some such number, so if you just change the format to text, you get that slightly unuseable number (as you may already know). The only way I know to accomplish the task is to format the cell first as text, then key in the date as you want it to show.

it tried

=TEXT(C2,mm-dd)

but it returned !name

waht am i doing wrong?

great that worked now anyway I can apply that formula on itself - meaning that within cell c2 i do =TEXT(C2,"mmm dd")

Nope. but you can hide column C, or after you do the formula, you can copy - Paste Special > Values back into C2
