I am trying to convert an isbn ie 1-8466-4866-x into just a standard text ie 184664866x, i have tried formating the cell and then choosing custom, 0000000000 as a format but this does nothing....all i want to do is to remove the hyphens from the isbn, does anyone have a simple solution??
thanks

also i accidently wrote in on somebody elses totally unrelated thread appologies...

If I remember right, the hyphens in an ISBN can occur in varying positions, so you need to replace them wherever they are. In that case, you need:

=SUBSTITUTE(A1,"-","")

to remove all hyphens from the string in A1
