Excel Attachment won't open or save

I have someone who can not open an xls attachment in an email. It is only one file with a specific file name. If I send the file renamed, but still with an xls extension, it opens fine.

The error message indicates a permissions problem, but no other attachments, excel or otherwise, have this problem. It states: Can not create file, check the permissions for the location to ensure that you have adequate rights. (Not verbatim, but very close to that)

This is Office 2003. Any help is appreciated. I have searched the hard drive for other files with this name and can't find any. I did select the option to search for hidden files as well. I'm thinking that there is a temp file somewhere, but I don't know enough about excel to ID what temp files it uses.

I found this article in Microsoft's KB: 170798. One of my users has the same problem. In my case we have part of Office 97 and Office XP installed. If the file name is shortened it works fine. The permissions do not seem to be an issue because everything is set to full control.

I ended up deleting all files in the folder identifed by the OutlookSecureTempFolder which is located in HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Microsoft\Office\11.0\Outlook\Security

This could be different for each client so you will need to look at the value that is there.

Thanks a bunch. It worked after deleting the files in the folder. Any idea if this folder is supposed to purge itself from time to time or was it getting too large?
