I have a column chart in Excel 97. One of the data values is much greater than all the others. Is there any way to change the scale on the chart so the small value columns are large enough to see the differences between them, while the big value column is split in half and continues on a split scale on the y-axis? This is the type of thing they do in pubilications when one value is much greater than the others.

looks like this:

X
X
X
axis
split
X X
X X X X
X X X X X X X

The problem is that if there is no axis split, the y-axis is scaled to fit the big value and the remaining values are so small on the chart that you can't tell the difference between them.

I can't find any option in Excel 97 that will allow me to do what I want.

Please help if you can.

Thanks! ::)

Only thing I can suggest is that you copy chart, paste special as a picture. Paste again as a picture. Now you have two.

Using the crop tool (go get it under View-Toolbars-Customize; pick drawing on left and crop tool on right and drag it onto your drawing toolbar).

Crop top part of one chart, bottom part of another, well....I think you get the idea.

Dreamboat,

I tried to implement your suggestion. Excel 97 is not letting me paste the chart as a picture. It only gives me the "Paste" option and not the "Paste Special" option. Any suggestions?
