Excel 97 Default Date Format 4

How can I change the default date format in Excel 97 from US (i.e. 10/23/02) to UK (i.e. 23/10/02). I have tried removing/re-installing office but it doesn't ask anymore (i.e. the screen where you choose UK/English Dictionaries).

It seems to be set according to the user that is logged in (to Windows 2000), when logged in as one username it is set to UK and as another set to US even though the windows regional settings are all UK.

I think that Excel picks that information up from the Control Panel (Regional Settings, Date). Is that set properly?

Yes, All the regional settings are UK/British

When logged in as the user with date problem, under Regional Options, Input Locales tab, make sure that UK is the only one in the Input Language box.

Hi, Harri!

Run REGEDIT and go to Edit, Find. In the Find dialog box, under Look at, make sure only Keys is selected. Under Find what type in international.

Find next will bring up the first key. In the right hand pane make sure idate is set to 1.

F3 will find next key etc. You will find one key under

HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Control Panel\International

and rest of the keys under

HKEY_USERS\.Default\Control Panel\International

Here is what the idate value does:

Value of "0" = MM/DD/YY
Value of "1" = DD/MM/YY
Value of "2" = YY/MM/DD

Should have mentioned: To be safe make sure you export each registry setting before changing it. Export can be found under Registry menu.
