I have a user who when we open an Excel document or if we just open the application, Excel proceeds to open every document on his 'H' drive until the computer runs out of memory. If I disconnect the H drive, open/run Excel, then reconnect the 'H' drive, we can open a single document without any trouble. If I move a number of documents to my computer, I also don't experience the problem. I have been suspicious of a macro virus but have scanned many times with no virus' found, and the dats are very recent.

People have suggested an 'Auto-open' type feature and I wonder if this is what is happening. I have been on Microsofts KB and didn't find anything that helped. Let me know if I can supply more info.

TIA,
Xirtam

Hi - make sure Macro Virus protection is turned on. You could also try changing the default file location and seeing if that has any effect.

Kevin.

Once you get Excel open, do a Toos>Options>General. Just under Default File Location, look at "Alternate Startup File Location". Mu guess is that you'll see "H:\" in it. Blank that setting. That setting is for exactly what you're seeing. It's designed to open every file in the gfolder it points at automatically at startup.

If everything seems to be going well: you don't have enough information.......

You guys are the best. I have never been disappointed. PROBLEM SOLVED. It was that 'alternate directory' that was pointed toward his documents folder. I would be interested to hear how people belive that it got that way <user error?>.

Anyway, I try to answer questions that I can, and now I have been helped in a big way. Thanks to everyone in the community.

Peace,
Xirtam

Xirtam: I've found that people think it will then allow them to view the files in that directory as well as the default file location.....hmmm....can't keep their fingers outta there...hee hee.
