I have an excel spreadsheet that is protected so that only certain fields can be edited when the password is entered. The problem i have is that as soon as the sheet is protected it won't allow users to tab between cells when entering data in the cells they can edit.

Is there any way i can let people tab between cells? Or is there a better way to do this?

Hi,

When you unlock the cells you want users to edit and protect the sheet, the TAB key will move the selection to the next unlocked cell. If there is only one unlocked cell in the sheet, the TAB key appears to do nothing.

Won't let me download.

but it still wont let you enter data then tab into the next cell
What your statement says is that...

1. You cannot 'enter data'

2. You cannot 'tab into the next cell'

Or did you mean to say...

but after you enter data, it still wont let your tab into the next cell.

Can you SELECT the next cell?

What cell do you 'enter data' and what cell is the 'next cell'?

Please answer ALL questions.

It is the after you enter data, it still won't let you tab into the next cell.

You can select the next cell with either the mouse or cursor keys.

Using "Allow Users to Edit Ranges", cells =$A$2:$E$41 can be edited once the password for this range has been entered. Then I've used protect sheet to password protect the entire sheet. This has the same password as the range.

When you enter the password the range is unlocked and you can enter data into the cells. The only thing is that normally in excel you can then use the tab key to get to the next cell, but in this sheet you have to either use your mouse of the keyboard cursor keys instead. I've been asked why this is and if i can undo this?!

Does that explain ok?

Could your keyboard mapping be messed up? Can others TAB?

What is a password protected range that is different than a protected sheet?

Other people can't tab. I have a feeling this is just one of those lovely quicks that microsoft like to add to thier software.

You can password protect an editable range as well as the whole sheet. I've tried not password protecting the range but it makes no difference.

Thanks for your help

Tell me how you "You can password protect an editable range."

Never knew that, xlhelp.

Still cannot understand why you cannot TAB.
