Hello all. First I just want to say that this forum is always helpful. Thanks!

I stumbled upon an issue with one of my end users computers. They are running Office 2003 with the Compatibility pack. I'm trying to get them to have the ability to open and edit .xlsx files.
Originally, the file was not viewable until I installed the compatibility pack, along with the excel viewer. Now they can view the .xlsx file with the Excel viewer. I then tried to open the file with Excel and I'm still getting the following error message:

If I click on ok or cancel, the information in the file turns to a bunch of code. There is nothing wrong with the file because it opens fine on my pc.
I ran a complete uninstall and then reinstalled Office. Still getting the same error.
I would appreciate any suggestions.

Thanks Tek-Tips!

Hi,

When will this user get 2007 loaded?

Are you using 2007 feature that are not available in 2003? If not, you can SaveAs ALL your workbooks as type 97-2003 in the interim or SaveAs your workbooks as both .xlxs and .xls, the latter being for consumption by your 2003 users.

Hi Skip!

Well the company is not migrating over to 2007 as of yet. Everyone else seems to be ok once I install the Compatibility pack. This once machine is giving me the problem and I want the user to be able to view the .xlsx files without asking me to convert it for them, like everyone else.

Thanks for your reply

Strange that some of you already have 2007, if that's the case.

I'd save EVERYTHING as .xls until everyone is converted.

The file is coming from an outside source. All internal users are running 2003. Like I mentioned above, mostly everyone can read/edit the .xlsx files. This pc is an exception and not sure why. hmmm

Are all the other users operating their Excel sessions through Citrix too?

Cheers, Glenn.

Hi Glenn,

They are not using Citrix. I was working on the machine from home trying to fix the problem.

Thanks for your reply.
