Excel 2003 Formula Bar

In excel 2000 the formula bar had an "=" equal sign.
In excel 2003 the formula bar has an "fx" function sign.

Does anyone know how to get the equal sign back instead of the function sign?

Tools > Options > General tab, check off Formula Bar or Status bar as you wish

Maybe you miss read my question? Besides in Excel 2003 on the General tab there is no check box for either of those choices.

Alright.. I see that I can make the formula bar go away by using the check box on the View tab.

But how do I change the function button to an equals button on the formula bar like it used to be in Excel 2000?

AFAIK you can't change it. But why does it matter? The icon is different, the behaviour slightly different, but the functionality is the same.

it put an equals sign in the selected cell without over writing the contents of the cell.

Which is what the function button does (at least on the machine at hand).

When I hit the fx symbol on my formula bar it brings up the "insert function box" instead of just putting the equal sign in the box.

Do you know how you changed your functionality?

Ok, I understand what you are saying about the difference (and I can see it as being slightly annoying if you're used to relying on the old behaviour) but I repeat that, AFAIK, you can't change it - although someone may prove me wrong.
