I would like to crated a list of information on a sheet within a workbook and use that list as a database to fill a cell on the first page of the workbook. For example a list of different computer components and have a cell on the front page have a drop down arrow when you click it you can pick a item from the list (database) that would populate that cell.

Hi MRBRENT,

I've made modifications to another "database list" model that was similar to what you described. Based on your description, the model should now be "closer" to your description, and should serve as a good example to "get you started".

If you'd like the file, just email me and I'll send the file via return email.

i may be missing something, but isn't this something you could do with data validation?

Definitley - data validation. If you have your list, just select your cell that you want to have the dropdown in, goto Data / Validation and select "List" then choose your list of cells et voila

Data Validation would do it for you. Just one point of note. You cannot reference cells in worksheet 2 from worksheet 1 using the Sheet2!$A$1:$A$10 (or similar) method.

What you will need to do is name the range of data you wish to be able to pick from and then use that as the appropriate source. For example, in sheet 2, highlight the range of data, hit CTRL-F3 and then type in for example MYDATA.

The under DATA and VALIDATION, after you have chosen to have LIST in the ALLOW drop down field, in the source field, type in =MYDATA, which should pick up your data from sheet 2.

Hasit,

I'll second Geoff's thought! I tried data validation, discovered I couldn't reference another sheet directly and figured "nice try, but..." Thanks.
