I have completed the CBT from Nortel on this course. I have also read the white papers. I have approx. 35 customers with both BCM's and Cs-100o's where I have successfully got the IP phones and the softphones to work in WAN enviroments and from home users using DSL and cable modems. Now for the question......Is Nortel out of there minds with this exam? As I stated I have taken the CBT and have had several years expierience with VoIP. I have taken this test twice and failed. The exam appears to me to have nothing to do with the CBT that they recommended taking. Now it may just be me but has anyone else found this to be true? Does anyone have any pointers on passing this test? Thanks to all in advance....

A tech I know from Nextira One with 25 years experience had the same problem. The guy is a living phone genius and failed. I understand that almost nothing in the exam related to anything on the CBT.

Thanks. Did this tech from Nextira One ever pass it? If so, does he have any pointers. I know I am gonna wind up going to Richardson for the course but from what I was tols, the course that Nortel gives you is totally based on the same info from the CBT....

I am in the UK and I have failed this exam on 3 occasions. i attended a 2 day course with Global knowledge which I was led to believe prepares you for this course, boy, what a shocker. the course did not cover bandwidth recalculation and I remember that there are 3 or 4 questions in relation to this topic.

I am currently taking a break from study to carry on installing the systems, and hope to resit again within the next couple of months.

i have 3 or 4 guys i work with who took a few cert tests and said the same thing the cbt has absolutley nothing to do with the test..1 cert had the passing grade dropped to i think 55...also the questions were not written by a person who spoke english as his/her primary launguage...and yes they are failing 2 to 3 time berfore they pass

ski season has started

That test was brutal, I failed it once myself. The first time I wrote it was totally different than I expected. what helped for the retake was the fact I had a good idea of what was on the test. I remember I never could get the H323 and SIP part. When I took my test and failed, my grade paper showed the different topics/areas in the test and I was able to see where I did poorly and study up on those areas.

Thanks to all for your responsees. I feel that Nortel is trying to emulate a Cisco enviroment and I guess that I shouldn't be surprised. I just feel that they should have a better user friendly Course that can be taken away from there Global knowledge center as I am a project manager and designer and time away means trouble. But then again, with Nortel stocks the way they are right now I guess that aspect of there company generates money for them that most small phone companys can't afford.....(Man did I go off here! Sorry!)

Pass this on to those who need it. The Nortel BCM/VoIP certification test is equally as difficult as it is unrelated to feild technician knowledge of key systems. I Failed it my first time but passed after the second. Any person taking the test will absolutely NEED to have these "Global Knowledge Nortel Networks Training" discs: 0365T and the 0360T. Make these two discs your new religion for a week or more as needed and you will be able to answer 98% of all the questions on the test assuming you have a good working knowledge of the BCM ( old and new ). It wouldn't hurt to have the 0299T disc as well. Unless the study materials/test have changed since I took it last summer. Good luck!

John.

Its obvious NORTEL are confused ,they can not even get there training right, then one begs to ask if the equipment leads to the same concept.

If the training do not relate to the exams , i would demand a refund of all exams taken.

In the u.k. the exams are related to the course work i think this is sensible , what do you say ?

If anyone can purchase training materials from out of the USA you should look for ITEL training products. I have seen their BCM product and it is thourough and up to date at 3.6. ITEL actually develops many of the applications for the BCM so they know how it works.
The quality is so much better than Global Knowledge and I only wish that the best training product out there could be purchased in the states.
I know they sell to Authorized vendors in the UK and Canada.

Well. I must say Thanks to all for advice. I took it for the third time and passed. Nortel must have heard all of the cries from everyone because the new version of the test is worded totally different and it now actually pertains to the CBT that I took. Again, Thanks to all.

teleplop are you saying that they have changed the exam?
I have not written the exam this year but got 64% (67% to pass) 4 times last year (Yea, same mark all 4 times) I took the global knowledge course and Aced the exam, but the course means nothing to Nortel only the Cert. Exams. I have been installing BCM’s for years, have over 60 customers that I have set up VoIP applications with no problems, Hopefully they have changed it to recognise that field technicians have a different view on how Nortel’s products work, through experience, what’s in the book or on CD does not necessarily work in the field, and the exam reflected the documentation not reality.

I got 64% the first time and 81% only last week, the pass mark was still 67%, the exam has not changed since i took it last Dec, the Voip exam has nothing to do with the BCM and is far to general to make any efective revision plan..

I passed all of the exams first time the NNCDS and the NNCSS. I found the majority of the VOIP exam study material at the cisco website. I will try and put it all together and put up a link.

I took the online Global Knowledge course and took this test and got a 90%. The course seems cover the areas that are on the test pretty well.

I did what barleyboy did, but got the cd (365T) instead of the web-based course. Took test today and got an 81%...I think it does a good job of covering the test material. As long as your not paying for it...899 bucks for the course I think...

I agree with derry163, after twice failing we got 365T CD to study, it helped alot and I passed on the third time. Unlike ole ClusterChuck who passed on his first try!
