I am running win2003 server with Exch2003 server installed, the current backup solution as follow:

windows backup; I veified the backup report and I was able to see the .bak file, but when I click the file and try to see the detail and I don't see anything there; does it mean the backup file have no data or I need to restore it to a test envirnment to verify the whether the backup is good?

TIA

The backup can be configured to output a log, and the log will tell you the results of the verify that ran after the backup. If you don't have a backup log, then if the verify was on and the backup was successful, then it's most likely a good backup. If you want to know for sure, you'll need to do a test restore.

You go to the restore Tab of the NT backup then point to the BKF file, then right click on the Backup set that will appear after you point and select the option "catalog", it will then show you the directory structure of what you have backed up.

now that I have created a test envirnment:

Win2003 AD with Exchange 2003 Server installed (I know this is not recommended, but due to the limited hardware,I have no other options); I was able to send the email to my yahoo account, but I couldn't reply back to my newly created email addreess( I guess I will need to create a MX record for it);

Envirnment with the production server:

Exchange 2003 server installed on Win 2003 server in Win 2k AD
I believed that I have good backup(win 2003 backup); I went ahead copy the backup file over to my test exchange server and try to see the bK is good or not; I got the following error:

Unable to create the log path, check to see make sure it is a valid path; also says the computer is not an exchange server or the services didn't start( I checked the services and they all started)

TIA
