When a crystal report is exported to word, is there a way to get rid of the squares on the actual fields? We have reports that WE HAVE to export to word, but the problem is we need to make modifications AFTER they have been exported. But when I do an export and I click on a field or click on any text it shows the resultant square. Is there any way to get the report to a NORMAL word document?

Thanks / Jon

There are hotfixes and the latest service packs generally address exporting, but I think that what you're observing is the standard export.

Perhaps you should export as Rich Text (RTF) or one of the text formats and open that with Word. RTF has similar concerns.

You've got to be kidding?

So there is no way of getting rid of the frames but keeping the content in word? How else do people generate word documents from another application??? Is there any other way of doing this so the crystal report LOOKS EXACTLY the same but its in .doc format?

THanks / Jon

When you say "Squares" are you talking about text boxes? When I export to word, my report does look exactly the same. All the text and data lies inside text boxes - which can still be edited, but the appearance is the same. I have got both service packs loaded.

Yes text boxes.
I understand the text is there and you can modify it, however, try inserting a new line (just hit return) from a value within your text box...youll see that the word goes away inside the text box..and you have to increase the size of the text box just to see it. I'm mainly talking about additions not edits. Additions are very difficult....

I am also having this problem. When I export to word everything is in text boxes. The user needs to make changes to the report and it is very hard with the text boxes. Can anyone please tell me how I can still export to word, keep the same format and get rid of the text boxes?

To get editable text exported from Crystal - you will need to do the export in either Crystal version 8.5 or Crystal v11. In v11, you can opt for Word editable rtf and then you can edit the text.

I personally don't have Crystal v10 - so someone here might be able to test exporting to Word to see what happens.

Exporting text to Word from Crystal v9 is pointless if you need to change things.

I've got v10 and it's the same old s... I'm sure that way back when in v6,v7 or maybe in early v8.5, Crystal Exported to Word WITHOUT Text Boxes. I gave up on Exporting to Word.

Hi,
Not so unusual..If you try and edit text in Crystal itself, you will need to resize the field after hitting enter for a new line..Why should Word be different?

I am running 8.5. Could I replace some dll from 6 or 7 so the export will work? If so does anyone know which dll's?

Just my 2 cents worth ....
Messing with dll's (especially for Previous revisions) is not a good idea.

It is the only thing I can think of doing? Anyone got any other ideas? Got a test machine so it really does not matter if I do mess it up.

Hi,
Have you tried exporting as plain text and let Word convert in on saving?

As long as we are complaining about Exporting ..... How many times have you exported to Excel and found that you have 'merged cells' that are a PAIN to get rid of? This is another one that I swear that it worked the way I wanted it to in V6 or V7 or somewhere "back then"
