I am writing some crystal reports for a client using Mas90, and they had a complaint about constantly having to get everyone out of Mas90 to do anything, even something as innocuous as printing labels.

Please tell me this is not true. Please someone tell me there is a setup issue here.

Depends on the tables your reports are based on. Some tables, like the customer table are constantly open, with some records locked causing troubles.

Can you be more specific?

The item table and the item warehouse table (I don't have the actual tables names handy) are the tables in question. I am sure these are open all day long too, by virtue of people invoicing, taking orders, placing orders, inquries, etc.

So how can the fact that these tables are open prevent a report from running? The report does not update anything, it just lists it. Is Providex a single user in a single table at a time database?

Do these problems go away if you upgrade to Mas 200?

Well, the danger is not usualy with the tables being opend, but with records being locked.

If a user has the warehouse table open, with a record being added or edited, you could have problems.

If inquirey screes are open, usually not an issue.

I don't know the diff between 90 and 200 would solve your issue. Either way, getting people out of mas should not be necessary, just out of the inventory systems.

I So you are saying that if someone is in the item master, that you cannot run a report against the item master? Is this correct?

If some one is in Item master, with a record open for edit, you won't be able to access that record with crystal. Not the table, but the record.

Not that I have a personal problem with Blorf, I just find this very hard to believe.

Record lock -- you are describing 2 people maintaining the same record simeltaneously. I understand how this is a problem.

However, even if you cannot have 2 people maintaining the same record at the same time, you should be able to have multiple people "reading" the same table - and een the same record -- simeltaneously, even if a third person is maintaining it.

Once again I ask, is this a problem with Mas 90 software in general, or is there a problem with the setup of this particular install of Mas 90?

Hi There,

No you shoul;d not need anyone to get out of any module in MAS when reports are run.

I've written custom Crystal report in MAS 90 Ver 3.xx and have never had this type of issue.

Does your client get messages telling them they can not run the report ? All the report files do is READ from tables, there is not a problem with running reports from the same tables.

Dgillz, your thread started with your client upset about having to exit MAS90 to do anything. Can you give me some examples of other areas that seem to need exclusive access. It can help me figure out whats wrong with the installation.
