I'm getting the following application log errors when booting into Win2k. I've searched on the net but haven't found much in the way of a viable solution or explanation.

All of the errors are eventID: 41, source: WinMgmt

WMI ADAP was unable to create object index 2442 for Performance Library ASP because no value was found in the 009 subkey

WMI ADAP was unable to create object index 2106 for Performance Library ContentFilter because no value was found in the 009 subkey

WMI ADAP was unable to create object index 2548 for Performance Library SMTPSVC because no value was found in the 009 subkey

What exactly are Performance libraries? What purpose do they serve? Are these warnings something to be concerned about?

Any help and/or advice is much appreciated. I'd really like to know how I can get these warning errors to disappear.

Thanks--

Scott:)

What service pack do you have installed? Maybe upgrading to SP2 would resolve the matter.

You could also try this, found on the Microsoft site:
"Try to dredge the computer's performance libraries again by using the following commands:

winmgmt /clearadap
This command clears all WMI-related values from the service's performance registry key.

winmgmt /resyncperf "winmgmt service pid"
This command registers the the computer's performance libraries with the WMI."

I have service pack 2 installed. It's been running beautifully for 6 months. What prompted this whole mess was I was installing the latest version of cloneCD. After the installation was finished the machine required a restart.

On restart the machine just hung on the Windows 2000 splash screen. I tried re-starting several times to no avail. I used the emergency repair process including a one day old repair disc I had just made. Still nothing. I always got hung up at the splash screen. After fooling with it for about an hour I retired to bed for the evening.

The next morning I tried again, only this time I unplugged the USB powered zip drive I had hooked up. I'm not sure what prompted me to do this. It's never been a problem before--having the drive plugged in during a re-boot. Anyhow, I unplugged the drive and low and behold I was able to boot into safe mode. Upon the OS loading I subsequently removed cloneCD. The OS now boots fine but I'm getting the above described errors. In addition and probably because of the SMTPSVC error I can't send any mail via Outlook.

I don't want to have to format my HD and start from scratch. We all know what a pain in the rear that is. Half a day shot to hell.

I've used the command winmgmt /clearadap. It did clear the Performance Library RSVP error. I'm afraid I'm stumped on the other command you suggest winmgmt /resyncperf "winmgmt service pid". I'm guessing that the PID is the number I see in the task manager next to certain processes? What I'm wondering is I don't see all of the error causing processes running or even listed in the task monitor?? How else can I track down each processes PID in order to reset them?

Still searching,

Scott,

I've been looking around on the internet and it seems several people have experienced this issue. They all seem to have installed SP2 to resolve the problem, or they ran the command winmgmt /clearadap, which cleared the errors.

You are right about the PID, that stands for Process ID, which you can find in the task manager. Try running winmgmt /resyncperf "Process Name" instead of PID.
For example, try winmgmt /resyncperf "SMTPSVC" and see what happens.

If that doesn't resolve the problem, maybe you could try reloading Service Pack 2 (if you haven't already).

Good Luck.

Tourist,

I've thought of re-installing the service pack as well. The one problem I have with that is that my version of Win2k includes the updates of service pack 2. I'm not sure how to only install the service pack without re-installing the entire OS. I've gone to the windows update site but when it scans my 'puter it detects that sp2 is already installed. Where can I download another copy of just the service pack?

Never mind. I found a page on the microsoft site that will allow me to download the entire service pack.

I'll let ya know.

Anyone else reading this thread. I'm still open for suggestions.

Have a positive day,
