I have a few laptops sharing the same problem. All have Windows 2000 Porfessional installed and have two network cards each. One is in the docking station and one is in the laptop. I cannot always connect to the domain whether I am in the docking station or not. It seems that once I can connect through the docking station I cannot connect the laptop when disconnected from the docking station. Some help would be really appreciated!!!! Thanks.

Try creating two hardware profiles, one using the nic in the docking station and one using the nic in the laptops.

I have already done this. I believe this problem is a result of our WINS but I cannot confirm this. We do not use LMHost Files. This is not an option with my organization. Any other ideas?

Is your dc win 2000 or NT? If your running 2000 server it uses dns, wins would have nothing to do with it. Check your dns configuration.

Have you tried running ipconfig /release and ipconfig /renew from a command line when you're not on a docking station? Marc Creviere

I have done this and the problem is not resolved.

Does the NIC in the laptop get a valid IP address from the server when you renew? Marc Creviere

Yes it does but I still receive the Event ID error.

What Event ID? Are you able to resolve names using nslookup? If not are you able to ping by IP address? Marc Creviere
