My W2K SP3 server is not logging events for my DNS or FRS. It is logging properly for System, Application and Security.

It stopped logging after I installed the following critical updates:

KB824141
KB823182
KB826232
KB825119
KB828035
KB828750

I check those KB's, and nothing jumps out as a potential cause.

Any ideas on what to look for?

Not really an answer, but an observation. After applying about 5 different updates on a 2K/SP4 member server, all three logs (application, security and system) no longer log anymore and are all empty. Sounds like MS released another bad patch.

Well, at least it appears to not be "just me", although apprently it's isolated, as I haven't been able to find any info on the problem at all today.

Thanks.

Update: The FRS is logging (just hadn't been any events to log), but the DNS is not. I took the server down for maintenance and when it came back up, it was logging FRS events (since it was the main DC), but the only DNS event was that the DNS server had started.

So, now, one of the listed KB's has hosed the DNS logging. Weird.

I am seeing this now on one of my Win2K DC's. The App and System logs are not logging. Very strange. How do you fix an event log that wont log events to tell ya whats wrong?

Any ideas out there?

Thanks

Same thing happened to me after SP4.
Change the log file size for the affected log and it should start working again.
