I was wondering what is the best way/tool to go about managing Windows Event Logs. I have about 30 servers and i would like a simplified way to manage the various event logs (ex: system, security, application, etc).

Ideally, id like to be able to backup and clear these event logs once a month. Id like to be able to monitor the event log as a whole...and possible setup alerts when an event meets a certain criteria.

Any ideas? Suggestions.

Thanks ahead of time!

Well you possible allready done this but...

1. Start by creating one mmc with all the event logs from your servers. Then you at least have them all in one window.

2. There are some tools for managing all the events but you could take a look at crystal reports. It is normally used for creating reports with oracle or sql servers but you could use it with event viewers.

3. Take a look at wbscripts from microsoft. It's is free and they allready have example scripts for getting the information you need.

Good luck
