Event Log Alerting

Hi all...

Does anyone have some suggestions on monitoring event logs? I have over 100 servers in this environment and I'd like to:

1) Have a central place where event log activity is collected and stored.

2) Be able to have an email sent to a particular group when there is an error in any of the event logs, allowing timely assessment of errors etc.

I'm looking to purchase software to do this...not looking for something free.

I work as a consultant for a large IT firm in Australia and have seen quite a few tools around the place. I have recently been involved in a large global company that uses the below product to monitor a couple of dozen servers.

I have to say it is one of the best tools I have seen in a long time. I has a VNC type desktop access which has its advantages to RDP at times (software installs etc) and I believe has the possibility to do what you require on the event side of things. It has a 30 day trial so it would be worth a play.

Thanks for the advice...I've used Dameware before for remote access needs...haven't noticed if it has event log error alerting - but I am going to look into it.

I don't think the Dameware mini remote part will help but the Dameware NT Utilities which is the full package and includes mini remote might contain the features that you are looking for.

Also check out Elm from TNT software. Great product but not exactly cheap or light on system requirements. Depending on your log retention, etc you may need to dedicate hardware to this solution. Highly recommended.

I'm also interestsed in finding a solution like this. But just curious, how are the logs sent across to the database? Is it using SNMP or SMB or ... ?
