Hi All,

My Information Store keeps stopping and the only information in my event log is ID 9175. This is an error that is caused because my IS is not running, but it gives me no indication of why it stops. I can restart it and it runs for a while (maybe half an hour), but then it's down again. I had this problem once before and had to reinstall Exchange from scratch. I have followed hundreds of links on the 9175 error and tried the so called fixes with no success. If I have to reinstall again, I think I'll be trying another mail server - don't need this every couple of months.

Any help is appreciated.

Thanks B.

Win2k Adv. Server and Exchange 2000.

Hi!
Can you provide more info about the configuration?
Service packs for Windows and Exchange, Hard drives and RAID config, Disk Free space, CPU, Memory utilization, additional software running on the exchange like antispam, antivirus.
Is it one domain/one exchange or more complex configuration?
Do you have power failures?
Check you hard drive for errors.

Checking the above parameters are basic steps before you proceed with more serious troubleshooting and most probably you've done it.
I would recommend you to check the integrity of the IS.
I forgot to ask you about the size of the mailbox store - you mention that you are running Exchange 2000 (the standard edition) which means that your mailbox store is limited to 16 Gb.

The next step would be to enable Diagnostic Logging for MSExcangeIS. Set the logging level to Maximum (of course make sure to specify bigger size for the log files).

There is certainly a reason for this problem and if you are patient and act methodically, you'll find it.

I hope this info was useful.

Thanks for all the tips, but it is moot at this point as my HD crashed and I had to reinstall. This however was not the problem with Exchange (but too long to explain why here).

I think the problem was, and may even be now after I reinstalled, is the mapi32.dll file. When I tried to re-install Exchange before the crash I got an error that it was the wrong file (size, date, whatever). Now after the crash I get a similar error about the same file. I just got Exchange running about 5 minutes ago, so I won't know for a bit if there are any problems.

By the way, I am running 2000 Adv Server as a Domain Controller. Norton Corporate 9 is running and setup not to scan Exchange or Active Directory files, and Exchange is the Enterprise Edition.

Thanks again
