Ive read the Microsoft KB article about this and it might as well be written in Chinese (no offense to any chinese ppl) but i dont understand what the heck its trying to tell me. Im kind of leaning towards bad harddrive, BUT it would really suck if i had the HD replaced to find out it was the disk controller.

Anyone have any ideas about troubleshooting?? Im kind of at a loss..

Thanks for any input..

Machine just blue screened again reading "A process or thread crucial to system operation has unexpectedly exited or been terminated"

Any help is appreciated.

Thanks!

Sounds like the HDD is headed south. What is the make of the hard drive? Check the vendors site for their diagnostic utility and run it. The diagnostic utility should give you detail as to what is going on with the drive.

I tried using HDtunes error checker, and it froze twice..

BTW this is a Dell Precision 390.

I am not familiar with your HDtune program but it seems to run in Windows, so any freezing might be clouded by some other issue.

I agree with "IllogicallyLogical's" suggestion and advise also that you contact the drive manufacturer. The advantage of their software is that it is self bootable and does not require Windows to be loaded. This will more easily show you if the problem is with the hard drive or elsewhere.

Speaking of elsewhere, these are also self bootable, and will check your RAM.

I agree with the analysis from my colleagues, that the drive is the issue and that using the manufacturers tools will give a better picture, if it is windows related (e.g. driver issue) or if it is a hardware fault (HDD or controller)...

on the F4 BSOD, have a read:
0x000000F4: CRITICAL_OBJECT_TERMINATION

One of the many processes or threads crucial to system operation has unexpectedly exited or been terminated. As a result, the system can no longer function. Specific causes are many, and often best resolved by a careful history of the problem and the circumstances of the error message. One user, who experienced this on return from Standby mode on Win XP SP2, found the cause was that Windows was installed on a slave drive.

Hey guys thanks for all the input!

Linney and illogical: So i did try the Dell HD Diagnostics utility, and it failed with an error code 7, apparently from what ive found this is a READ error on the disk. i already bought a WD 500gb SATA drive and am in the process of dropping an image on it.

BadBig Ben: i triple checked the HD connections, since most of the crapola i found on line instructed me about the whole slave misconfig issue. There had never been any other config since outta the box.

All should be well after this.. If not ill post a vid of me dousing the machine in gasoline and setting it ablaze!!! Dell ugghhhh!!

Completely off topic: i have a home built machine i made myself, and a toshiba laptop. So i am not really ever in the market for a pc.. But for the typical users who wanna buy something online or from best buy etc. ( thats NOT a Dell) what would you guys recommend as a long lasting reliably built machine??

now that would depend on where in the world the person lived... In the US I would have no idea, neither for the UK...
